Falcon Zero F-360 Review

Overview:

  • Not only is it designed to look like and replace your rearview mirror, but it actually functions like one. It has a reflective surface on its entire back side.
  • The mobility of both front and rear lenses is uncanny. They both rotate for 360°, so it is possible to use them in any way imaginable.
  • When you do want to use your display, you will find that it has an incredibly big screen. 3.5’’ is above the average size, probably the largest we’ve seen.
  • The camera’s real focus though is on its functionality. It has the HD 1080p video quality capability, and all the standard options any good car dash cam has, like G-sensor and loop recording.

Falcon Zero F-360 ReviewFalcon Zero is a respectable brand and their motto is “True protection is a reliable witness”.

It is a relatively young firm, established in 2012, but has quickly risen to be named one of the top manufacturers today. Their sole focus is on producing car dash cams and dash cam accessories, and they are based in the U.S.A.

As you can imagine, the purchase package is pretty fancy and descriptive. It contains the following:

The camera, a micro SD memory card and a memory card adapter, one car cigarette socket power connector, and a 10 foot USB power cord, a micro USB cable (short), and additional dash cable clips.

The camera and all of its components are in black colour.

Now, the first thing you notice is that this cam is designed to look exactly like a car rear view mirror. It has a large reflective surface at the same place your rear view mirror is, and it is pretty reflective.

In the middle of its bottom side it has a small extension with the buttons, facing the driver.

The buttons are decent and easy to use, which is often not the case with dash cameras. There are 5 buttons there:

  • On / Off
  • Mode up
  • Mode down
  • Menu
  • Record

The speaker/microphone is also between the buttons.

On one side there is a HDMI port and an SD card slot, micro USB slot, power port and a reset button are all on the top side.

The bottom right side holds two small rotating heads, both containing a lens each.

On the front side of the camera, or more accurately, the side that faces away from the driver, there are two really strong clamps with springs, so you can firmly place this cam on your actual rear view mirror.

So, this cam doesn’t replace your rear view mirror, it actually clamps on it and acts in its stead.

You easily mount it on it and position one of the camera heads forward and the other back, or you turn them whichever way you want. They both rotate 360°, which is where this model’s name comes from.

You can, for instance, rotate one to record you (driver) all the time. This can be useful sometimes during incidents.

The power cable is long enough, and with the help of cable clips you can easily hide it anyway you like so it stays invisible.

The power connector for the cigarette socket has two USB ports, which means you can power your camera and something else at the same time, like charge your phone. This feature is also rare and a particular favourite of ours.

Once you turn the cam on, the large display screen comes up in the middle of the entire reflective surface, and it takes up 3.5 inches.

It gives you the standard info: date/time, memory card usage, resolution, battery life and more.

By long pressing the menu/record, you enter the settings and browse options with the up and down arrows, entering the desired one again by pressing the menu/record button.

You have device settings and camera settings available. The options are quite simple and accessible.

The resolution option lets you choose between 1440x1080p, 1280x720p, and 720x480p.

Loop recording is what all these cameras must have. It means the system automatically divides all recording into loops, the length of which you can choose in the options. You can choose between 2, 5, and 10 minutes, or you can turn it off and have everything in one long recording video.

Once the memory is full, the system automatically overwrites the oldest loop, provided it is not locked from being overwritten by other features.

You can have up to a 32GB micro SD card, but it is a good advice that if you get an additional card, you get one that is class 6 or higher.

The video mode option lets you choose if you want to record only what camera A sees, or what camera B sees, or both. IF you are using them both, the display screen will be divided in half, showing you both recordings.

The camera settings contain the standard: date/time, auto power off, beep sound, language, frequency, format, lights up, screen saver, etc…

You can check which version of the software you have, and if you want the latest update, all you do is find one online on the official site, then copy and paste it on your SD card and once you plug it in your device it will update automatically.

You can choose between English, Deutsch, French, and Espanol.

Lights up lets you select between day mode and night mode.

When in camera mode, the menu/rec button no longer starts recording, but takes a photo. If both cameras are turned on, the photo will take both, and look like your display screen, divided in half.
You can after brows your video and photo galleries to choose which videos or photos to delete and which to keep.

The lenses have a 120° recording angle, which is sufficient since there are two of them, so you can basically cover any 240° angle part of your vehicle.

Performance:

Now, at first we were a bit sceptical, like most people probably. The whole design and rear view mirror mounting is a bit strange and could throw people off at first, but once we got through all the specs and checked out all the features, you really start thinking that it really is a good idea.

The reflective side is almost as reflective as the actual mirror, only a little darker but bigger, and you can always have the display screen show you what’s happening on your tail, if you point one cam there. The options are really numerous and after checking this cam’s possibilities, the whole thing feels really professional.

Both cameras capture a pretty decent image, with the quality matching like many other more expensive ones we’ve seen. The detailing is clear, the numbers and street signs are visible. Night vision is also quite good.

You can find this cam at somewhere around £ 100, which is pretty affordable, once you think about it.

The hardware is durable and firm, the cam is versatile, and the recording is high quality. Really almost no bad sides once you get used to the mounting method.

Now, of course, this mounting method does mean you don’t have that many options, as with other mounting brackets. It can clamp on some various places, but probably the best and only place it should be is your rearview mirror.

The only real thing missing is motion sensor, but other than that, this is one great peace of tech.

Conclusion:

This camera is pretty professional and useful. Its design is not that attractive, but actually necessary since the whole idea is for it to be your new rearview mirror, with high tech features.

All pros and cons compared, this cam is decent and recommended to anyone who likes this kind of versatility.
