Overview:

  • It has a full HD 1296p resolution range paired with WDR (wide dynamic range) capability, giving it an impressive video quality.
  • The 170° viewing angle is well above average, for this and even for higher camera class ranges.
  • It is designed to look like a classic photo camera, all in black colour and without any fancy attempts of appealing to people’s sense of aesthetics. It is just a simple tool for its simple purpose.
  • The bonus feature, certainly very rarely seen in this class and at this price range, is the motion detection.

The basics about the product

E-PRANCE D101 1296P ReviewE-Prance D101 is a car DVR (digital video recorder). This dash cam already has a reputation for being very affordable. It has earned many positive reviews and proved to be a good choice for anyone who is looking for a union between performance, low price and quality.

It comes in a small box with all components easily assembled. You have the main camera, the power cord and the camera holder which you can install in various places in your car. The cable is standard length, easily hidden anywhere around your panel or the steering wheel. The important thing is that it can reach the cigarette lighter socket, which is not a problem.

The digital set-up is also pretty simple. You have the resolution option, loop recording, WDR, exposure option, motion detection, audio recording option, date stamp, parking movie, and gravity sensing. There are also settings for date/time, auto power off, beep sound, language, etc…

Each option is pretty straight forward and easily understood, though the manual is quite modest. That was the one flaw many people agreed upon in the feedback section.

A memory card is included with the purchase of this item on Amazon. When the memory is full, the recording system will delete the oldest file and use that space. A 32gb SD card is able to store up to 240 minutes of 1080p video recording.

The camera starts recording automatically when it gets power (when you start your car usually).

The video quality is high definition, as is the sound.

The camera itself has a wide range of capabilities and pros, with only a few things short of a perfect product.

Product Performance

The camera performs quite impressively. Its high frame rate (30) enables clear details. The video quality is pretty professional, during the day or night. The sound recording is also quite good.
Depending on your settings, you can naturally have various video qualities.

The thing that really catches ones eye is the visibility of the details, such as street signs and even quite small letters.
It’s G-Sensor automatically detects impacts, protecting current recording safely and instantly.
Its night vision is quite superior to most of the things seen in this area and the WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) is really rounding up all of the pros nicely.
The camera is performing admirably even during the dusk/dawn time, dealing with the obscure lighting easily.

The special features are not explained thoroughly, as we mentioned before. The manual is quite poor in detail.
The more simple options are not a problem, such as: Resolution, Loop Recording (1, 2, 3 minutes or off), WDR (Wide Dynamic Range On or off), Record Audio (On or off). Then there are the Date/Time settings and the option of Date Stamp, Automatic Power Off option (3, 5, 10 minutes or off), Beep Sound, Language setting, Plate Number (Where you can set yours), Format, Screen Saver, etc…
Many of these settings are best left on default, though there are some things you should try out, like the Gravity Sensing option. You can choose between: Low, Medium, and High sensitivity, or to turn it off completely.

The camera holder is quite easy to install, and it has a firm but flexible joint, enabling you to set your desired recording angle.

There are rare instances of the charger plug popping out of the cigarette adapter socket. This could mean the connector in your car is worn out or damaged. To fix this, try pulling the two spring clips out some more (but very slightly) with a small screwdriver, or try consulting your car mechanic.

Overall Assessment

Definitely worth the money!

E-Prance D101 will be a definite upgrade if you are already using some standard cameras, and you will definitely be satisfied. The overall feedback is very positive and we also agree with it.

  1. Mine has never worked properly from the beginning. All I get now is ‘please insert SD card on the screen, even after having done so.
